I am a lousy artist, if you can even call me that . In fact (between you and me) I am useless when it comes to producing something good. I often get frustrated and angry because I can never create on paper the images in my head. I am way to critical of anything I produce. I have a bad habit of starting something and never finishing it. I am no perfectionist in life but when I try to produce something arty I am afriad of making a mistake which will look foolish on the end product, thus I dont let loose. I dont throw my full potential at the piece of paper. I often strangle out the passion of everything I create. I need to stop being so judgemental, I need to close my disapproving eyes and just push pen to paper.

When i create something its always late at night. I get a result that is kind of innocent and like an untainted love felt scribble... and i get a tiny grin adorned on my face.

Volcom Team Trip 2010

We headed down to Umzumbe on the South Coast of Durban for 5 days. Umzumbe is the perfect place to get lost for a few day and thats exactly what we did. about 15 of us all stayed in this mad, pretty much massion sized, house. It slept all of us comfortably and from the deck it had a good view of Umzumbe Point. We all spent most of our days at the beach, surfing and eating. We did however manage to trek up to Oribi Gorge to marvel over the amazing severity and bliss right on our doorstep. I fell inlove right there. Id pretty much move to the South Coast after this trip.

Alot of time was also spent just chilling outside soaking up the winter sun on the deck drinking a couple of beers and braai some wors.

the house was never quiet though. Shane brought his twins and josh, there were also 2 tiny groms (simmos and Daves), mark and his crazy guitar playing skills and well lets just say big Josh, little Josh, Patto, Qj, Chantelle, AJ, Chris, Chad and I all contributed.

Some true Volcom stuff went down like long nights and loud noises. Pool and Ping Pong Challenges and lets not forget the over usage of "chuck it in, mate" If the slogan was 'LETS GET SIFF' you must know how good it was.

...LEAVING DAY :( FOR CHUNKEY TRUCK

I had a strange feeling this morning. It was like... was almost surreal. I feel like I should have be having some kind of profound thoughts, but I did not. I just kept thinking: This is it. This is it. This is it. And other than that, I'm a lonely kid whos best friend and twin sister has left.

Allies, partners in crime, rivals...

We fought, we patched up. We laughed at jokes that no one can understand. We said some of the meanest things to each other. We defended each other when others won't. We did some of the silliest things together and there's so many stories to be recalled when we are together.

Through some of the harshest times, we became muted to one another. Yet through it all, the coldness will eventually thaw and melt away and we're right back to where we've left it, that is, like nothing has ever been missing...

Border is the best hands down. SA champs in St Mikes 2010 was one of the best trips ever. WE cleaned up. Everyone was stoked and proud to be a border team memeber during the event. Can I just say 10 out 16 people were in the finals! Thanks to Greg, Wayne, David, NIkita, Laurie and the rest of the team for bringing the magic!

Nikinobb came home for a short week. tam and stac flew in for a weekend. shit went down. it was alot of fun hanging out with everyone in thee good old slumpini. I really like it when my friends come to Slummies. it makes life joyous.

We partied alot... Well only twice in four days but same same. Went to student night at buccs. Tam out danced everyone. EVERYONE.

Decades. who honestly knew digits could be this ama-zing. no not I. a nice big crew collected at the keg and we then proceeded to get our jiva on at numbers. rather some good dancing and pretty sweet songs where played.

I prefer to have complete freedom when I colour their planks but sometimes you have to do things like parrots. But its rocks their boats so who am I to judge? I get alot of my ideas from Esher. I will not lie. No province is like Border. Non. I am so proud of this team. We may not have won any major prizes (although we did get shhhnided for the Spirit Trophy... SKZN honestly?). Every surfer improved and pushed there level of surfing to the max. They all performed hard in their heats and tried their best. PE here I come. Someone save me please. 10 days in a wave less little hole with a whole bunch of over excited kids. hmmmmmmmm the joys. I am quite excited for the event though, Grom Games will be an experience. That was the first major event I surfed but now its 15 kids first times to see if they will make it or break it amongst the countries top groms with me as their coach. It actually feels quite rad beening able to put back into surfing what I got out of it out 6 years ago.

So this Fine Monday is in fact a Public holiday and much to my dismay I worked. oh the joys.
Truckie came to fetch me after work, she changed lanes incorrectly... we almost died. almost.
Someone said the Fword at lifesaving....We all got Milkshakes.
Some people played volleyball during lifesaving. But instead I got barreled with Andrew Carter.
Christy won darts (she claims it was her first time playing) Beginners luck I tell you.
Madagascar 2 and homemade box supper is how the night went down.
We consumed Vanilla Vodka and energade. Error.
Truck doesn't approve, she only laughed. in her mind.

My dad has cool friends. Every time we go to the Western Cape I meet some more of them. So on a recent trip to the Cape, we went to Stellenbosh and visited Vernon Swart. He is my dad’s best friend… Its cool to know my dad still has friends from school, I wanna remember my friends too.. Well to get to the point, Vernon is an amazing artist, namely nudes. His house is like his art gallery so when you walk in every space on the wall is consumed by a picture. It ranges from naked people to fish to kids on the beach. It’s really rad. But that’s not all… He is also a very well known drummer. He plays in the band VALIENT SWART. I don’t understand afrikaans, which means I don’t like it but these guys even get my feet tapping. Take a listen.
Vernon has two boys. Rupert and Lucas. I hung out with Lucas. He is too rad. A drummer, guitarist and a piano player. He plays in the band PRETTY BLUE GUNS. Their music is rock but acoustic. It’s really sieeek. They also were nominated for some award involving skinny jeans so you must know…. I like.

My Slumtown HERO
